What does #dominoforever have to do with INECO? Quite a lot, actually.
I’ve been working with Lotus Notes since 1995, later IBM Notes, and today HCL Notes and HCL Domino. Over all those years, I’ve seen the platform change quite a bit, but one thing has essentially remained the same: there are still organizations that rely on Domino and Notes every day.
A few years ago, I first came across the hashtag #dominoforever at a large Domino user conference.
It was intended as a positive message from the Domino community: despite all the stories over the years about Notes and Domino disappearing, there are still many users, developers, and administrators working with the platform.
I thought the slogan suited INECO quite well.
And when I discovered that dominoforever.nl was still available in the Netherlands, I decided to register the domain name. 😉
Why #dominoforever?
Because I’m simply still enthusiastic about the platform.
Of course, HCL Domino is not the right solution for every organization. But for organizations that have been working with it for many years, it can be an exceptionally powerful and reliable platform.
And Domino is certainly not standing still. Since HCL took over the development of Domino and Notes from IBM, many new features and improvements have been introduced.
Initially, I was quite skeptical about HCL taking over the product. Looking back, that turned out to be unnecessary. In my view, HCL has listened carefully to users and partners and has further developed the product in several areas in a relatively short period of time.
Domino forever?
Of course, no one can predict whether Domino will literally exist forever.
But as long as there are organizations using it, developers building solutions with it, and administrators maintaining these environments, I certainly have plenty of reason to keep working with it.
And after more than 30 years, I’m not ready to stop anytime soon.
