My specialty is HCL Notes and HCL Domino, but of course a Domino environment does not exist in isolation.
A Domino server runs somewhere. There is an operating system, network, storage and often a cloud environment around it. That is why, alongside managing HCL Notes and Domino, I can also manage parts of the underlying IT infrastructure when this is part of my work.
This could be a Microsoft Azure environment, a Windows or Linux server, a network connection or other infrastructure supporting an application.
Administration around HCL Domino
Among other things, I can help with:
- installation, migration and maintenance of HCL Notes workstations;
- installation, configuration and administration of HCL Domino servers;
- administration of related products such as HCL Traveler and HCL Sametime;
- security and additional software such as anti-spam and anti-virus solutions;
- Windows and Linux servers running the Domino environment;
- Microsoft Azure environments and cloud infrastructure;
- connections and network components that are part of the environment.
Because I can understand and manage both the application and parts of the underlying infrastructure, I can often look at problems from several different angles.
Not a traditional system administrator
General system administration is not my core business.
So I do not take over the role of an entire system administration department, nor am I the right person for every possible IT problem.
My system administration work is primarily an addition to my other IT services. If managing servers, networks or cloud infrastructure is part of an assignment, I can include this in the work in consultation with you.
I have broad practical knowledge of Windows, Linux, networks, telephony and Microsoft Azure. When specialist work falls outside my own area of expertise, I work with other specialists where necessary.
Practical IT administration
In practice, this might mean that I:
- install and configure a Windows or Linux server;
- manage a Microsoft Azure environment;
- configure a router or switch;
- set up a network connection or modify an existing connection;
- investigate network or server problems;
- configure a printer or other network device when it is part of the environment;
- help set up the infrastructure around an HCL Domino environment.
This is not general helpdesk or facilities support. It is technical administration that connects with my other services.
So no: if you are looking for someone to check the printer every morning and refill the paper, I am probably not the right person. 😉
